MEET EMON

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Dear Community Members,

My name is Emon D. Thompson, Sr., and I am honored to introduce myself to you. I was born and raised in Magee, Mississippi, located approximately 35 miles south of Jackson along Highway 49. I am a proud 1986 graduate of Magee High School. For over 32 years, I have called Jackson home, with the last 15 years as a dedicated resident of Ward 6.

I pursued my studies at Jackson State University with a focus on Criminal Justice until I was activated for military service during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I later earned Associate Degrees in Network Technology and Network Security from Hinds Community College.

I have been happily married to my wonderful wife, Mrs. Cynthia Thompson, for 33 years. Cynthia serves as the National Vice President of Organizing for GirlTrek, a national organization dedicated to empowering African American women and girls through health and wellness initiatives. To learn more about their impactful work, visit www.GirlTrek.org. Additionally, she serves as a Board Member for Jackson Public Schools. Together, we are blessed with seven amazing children—five daughters and two sons—as well as two beautiful grandchildren.

I am a dedicated member of Greater Bethlehem Temple Church in Jackson, where I serve under the leadership of Bishop Robert Fortson, Sr. For over 28 years, I have been a licensed Elder within the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith Organization.

My commitment to community service is reflected in my leadership roles across various organizations. I have served on the boards of the Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods (ASJN), the Jackson Association of Neighborhoods (JAN), and the Jackson Resource Center (JRC). Currently, I am a member of the City of Jackson Planning Board and have been the President of the Brookleigh Homeowners Association for the past eight years. Additionally, I served as PTSA President at Wingfield High School for five years and as Booster Club President for three years.

As a proud veteran, I served eight years in both the National Guard and the U.S. Army. I am a disabled Desert Storm Veteran and remain committed to advocating for the needs of fellow servicemembers and our community as a whole.

I look forward to continuing my service and working collaboratively to build a stronger, more vibrant Ward 6.

Sincerely,
Emon D. Thompson, Sr.
